CONTROLLING FOAM IN TEXTILE WET PROCESSING
Because of our long-standing partnership with textile manufacturers, we recognize the critical need for specific foam control agents tailored to help combat specific foaming challenges in elevated or ambient temperatures, surfactant-rich systems or aggressive ionic foaming conditions. And our SagTex antifoam portfolio has typically met such demands by generally providing cost-effective, prompt knockdown and lasting foam inhibition to various phases of the textile manufacturing process. In some cases, properties engineered into SagTex products have resulted in effective foam control at concentrations less than half that of competitive silicone antifoams.
Not only do SagTex antifoams typically help to eliminate costly foam buildup that can cause productivity drops or uneven scouring or dyeing, but they also are formulated to generally introduce no new processing issues, such as oiling, fabric spotting or agglomerates. SagTex antifoams easily disperse in water and are insoluble in most systems, both key benefits for durability of antifoaming performance. They are inert and typically leave no substantial residue or odor on finished products.
Explore the SagTex antifoams product family to discover the right solution for your foam control needs.

SagTex DSA silicone antifoam is a medium viscosity, highly potent antifoam emulsion that offers excellent foam control as well as excellent compatibility in a variety of surfactant concentrates and foaming systems. Compared to common silicone defoamers, it offers exceptional foam knockdown and durability, and greater compatibility in difficult surfactant systems, e.g., such as those rich in solvents and/or electrolytes.

How to Use
SagTex PhD silicone foam control agent is a medium viscosity emulsion that can be easily transferred from its original package using piston pumps. Centrifugal pumps are not recommended, as they risk destabilizing, and in extreme cases, seperating the emulsion. In low viscosity formulations, preliminary stability and compatibility studies must be conducted prior to formulation design.
For process application, we recomment prediluting SagTex PhD silicon foam control agent with cold water (less than 18 °C) in a ration of 1:1 to 1:20. If the diluted SagTex PhD emulsion will be stored before use, then care must be taken to ensure stability of the dilution. Stability can be extended by adding small amounts of a suitable thinkening agent, such as xanthan gum or polyacrylates, to the diluting water. Commercial biocides containing 2-Methyl-4Isothiazolin-3 one and / or 2-Bromo-2-nitro-1,3-propanediol are very effective in this type of product.
A suggested starting concentration is typically between 0.1 and 2 percent, but this will vary depending on the severity of the foaming problem.
